Noida: A private school in Sector 168 received a bomb threat via email on Friday morning, marking the third such incident in Delhi-NCR in a week. The email, written in Tamil, led to suspension of classes at Shiv Nadar School.
Apart from Shiv Nadar, two more schools in Delhi received similar threats on Friday morning. All the threats were declared hoax after security teams scanned the campuses
Officials at Shiv Nadar said though the email was sent around 6am, it was discovered a little later during a routine check of the morning system. According to ADCP Sumit Shukla, police received a call informing them about the threat mail around 7.45am. Emergency teams — comprising police units, fire brigades, dog squads, and bomb detection experts — were dispatched soon.
The school management notified parents promptly, advising them to keep their children at home while safety protocols were being implemented on the campus. Students who had already boarded school buses were sent back home as a precautionary measure.
"The entire campus was cordoned off, and a comprehensive search operation was completed within two hours. No suspicious item was found, which confirmed that the threat was a hoax. Our cyber team is actively working to trace the suspect," ADCP Shukla said.
Police sources confirmed that the email was written in Tamil and primarily discussed ongoing conflicts at Anna University — where a 19-year-old student was allegedly sexually assaulted by an outsider on Dec 23 last year.
While the subject line mentioned an ‘RDX bomb blast', the content largely focused on Tamil Nadu politics surrounding the university assault case, according to translated versions examined by security authorities.
On Wednesday, similar threats were issued to four Noida schools — Step by Step School in Sector 132, Gyanshree School (Sector 127), The Heritage School (Sector 128), and Mayoor School (Sector 126).
These threats were traced to a Class 9 student, who admitted to sending the hoax emails hoping to get a day off from school.
NCR has witnessed several bomb threats targeting educational institutions in recent years. In Dec last year, multiple schools in Delhi received similar emails, causing widespread panic and prompting enhanced security measures across the region. In April, Delhi Public School in RK Puram faced a bomb threat that led to the immediate evacuation of over 5,000 students and staff members.
Police officials have admitted that the frequency of such incidents has increased significantly since 2022, with cybercrime experts noting a concerning trend of using sophisticated methods to mask email origins.
Police in both Delhi and Noida have established specialised units to handle such threats and implemented stricter protocols for educational institutions to follow during such emergencies. These recurring incidents have led to comprehensive emergency response procedures as well, including regular drills in schools and enhanced security measures.
