12 teachers elected to Patna varsity senate
Patna: Teachers of Patna University (PU) elected their representatives to the university senate through a secret ballot in a closely contested election held at the Jai Prakash Narain Senate Hall on Friday. Of the 15 available seats, 12 members were elected while three seats remained vacant. Six candidates were elected unopposed. Seventeen candidates were in the fray.
The elected members include Manoj Prabhakar, Vijeta Singh, Akhilesh Kumar Gupta, Satyendra Dutt Mishra, Binay Soren, Shiv Shankar Singh, Naqui Ahmad John, Ziaul Hasan, Salim Javed, Sovan Chakraborty, Deep Narain Kumar and Suppan Prasad Singh.
The university ensured all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the election. PU registrar Shalini acted as the chief returning officer and was assisted by several senior faculty members in overseeing polling and the counting process. Voting took place from 9am to 2pm and counting commenced at 3pm. To facilitate teachers' participation, classes in all colleges and postgraduate departments were suspended for the day.
According to PU sources, elections for employees' representatives to the senate will be held at the same venue on Saturday.
