Bihar: Woman dies after being thrashed for opposing husband’s illicit relationship

A woman died during treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Saturday after she was allegedly thrashed by her husband Vinay Ram and other in-laws for opposing his illicit relationship with his aunt and brother’s wife (sister-in-law).

PATNA: A woman died during treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on Saturday after she was allegedly thrashed by her husband Vinay Ram and other in-laws for opposing his illicit relationship with his aunt and brother’s wife (sister-in-law).
PMCH police TOP in-charge Amit Kumar said that the slain woman was identified as Naini Devi, aged around 25 years.

He said that the woman’s mother Rupjhari Devi (60) had recorded her statement before police in which she had made Vinay, his aunty, brother’s wife and three other persons named accused of killing her daughter.
Kumar said that Naini lived with her husband at village Manas under Akilpur police station area in Patna district. “According to the informant’s statement, her daughter was thrashed mercilessly on May 7 after which she was first taken to a block level hospital and later to PMCH where she finally succumbed due to injuries sustained during thrashing,” he said adding the mother also alleged of dowry demand besides her daughter’s act of opposing husband’s illicit relations as reason for thrashing.
Kumar said that the slain woman got married with Vinay in 2014 and was originally a native of Jeevarakhan Tola under Maner police station area in Western Patna.
Meanwhile, Akilpur police station SHO Sanjay Kumar said that none had approached police at Akilpur and the victim was clandestinely rushed to PMCH for treatment. “We came to know that her mother had recorded her statement before there. I have sent a team to PMCH. An FIR would be lodged on basis of mother’s statement and further action would be taken,” he said.
