BHAGALPUR: Marriage fun turned into gloom on Monday morning when a vehicle carrying a 'baraat' party met with an accident near Jhandapur village under Jhandapur police outpost in Naugachhia police district. Four persons died in the accident while six others received serious injuries. The 'baraat' party was on way to Khagaria after the marriage celebrations were held at a temple at Purnia when the vehicle met with an accident.

An overspeeding SUV from Purnia collided head-on with a static truck on the roadside on the opposite direction on NH-31 near Jhandapur village, said sources adding the vehicle was carrying ten members of a marriage party including the newly-wed couple. The driver of the SUV might have dozed off while driving the vehicle due to tiredness and lack of sleep the previous night, said sources adding as the driver lost control of the vehicle, it collided with the static truck.
Two persons, Amrish Chaudhary and Pappu Sharma, died on the spot whereas two others, who had received grievous injuries, died at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JLNMCH), Bhagalpur. Six other occupants of the vehicle including the newly-wed couple, Kaushal Mistri and Chanda Kumari, who had received serious injuries in the accident, were referred to JLNMCH. The condition of the injured are stated to be serious but stable.
Naugachhia SP Shekhar Kumar, confirming the incident, said the police after making preliminary investigation, have registered a case. Speed control awareness among drivers and taxi operators is required to prevent road accidents that lead to killing of innocent people, the SP added.
