Imteyaz Ahmad escaped a bid on his life when around 100 people surrounded his car and pelted it with stones near Redi village under Hilsa police station area on Wednesday night leaving him and his driver
Manoj Kumar injured.
According to police, the miscreants, who were part of a religious procession, attacked the vehicle of the DSP when he was returning to Hilsa after resolving a dispute between two groups over immersion of idols at Chiksohra village around 9.30pm on Wednesday.
Confirming the incident, Nalanda SP Nilesh Kumar said that Ahmad was on way to Chiksohra to resolve a dispute between two groups. Residents of Redi village, who were taking out an immersion procession, were dancing on road and while clearing it a man was possibly hit by the DSP's escort vehicle. On his way back to Hilsa, the DSP found a some people sitting on the road near Redi village. As soon as he got down from his vehicle to find out as to why they were sitting there, some miscreants started pelting stones in which the officer sustained minor bruises while his driver Manoj also sustained injuries. The duo were given first aid at a hospital.
The SP said that an FIR against seven named and 60 unidentified persons has been lodged and one Vinay Ram was arrested in this connection. Raids are on to arrest others.
