Patna: Congress president
Mallikarjun Kharge's scheduled meeting in Patna on Sunday has been cancelled. Party's secretary in charge of Bihar, Sushil Kumar Pasi on Saturday told this newspaper that Kharge will address the Buxar meeting only and return to Delhi where he has some important engagement in the evening.
The leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha will address the Jai Bapu-Jai Bhim-Jai Samvidhan rally at Dalsagar Sports Ground, Buxar, on Sunday as part of the Congress mission to find its lost ground in Bihar. Shahabad region is an important area.
Party sources said Kharge was to address the Pasmanda Muslim community in Patna the same day.
As the state assembly election is scheduled later this year, Congress has been trying to revive the organisation with changes from its state leadership to the district units since Krishna Allavaru took charge as the AICC in charge of Bihar.
Leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has already visited Bihar thrice this year and participated in the ‘Palayan roko, Naukri do' padyatra led by NSUI national in charge and former JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar in Begusarai on April 7.
Kharge will reach Patna airport before noon and will fly to Buxar by a helicopter to address the rally before returning to Patna on the way back to Delhi.
State Congress president and Kutumba MLA Rajesh Kumar, who inspected the helipad built at Churamanpur for the Buxar programme, said the party has been constantly working for the betterment of the deprived and strengthening the organisation at the grassroots level in Bihar.
Kharge will give a strong message for the protection of the Constitution from Shahabad, Rajesh said.
However, BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal dismissed Kharge's visit as a routine affair ahead of elections. "When elections approach, political parties send their respective netas. This is a natural process. Therefore, I consider the arrival of any neta during elections as a normal process," he told IANS.
