Madhubani: Playwright Mahendra Malangia, a resident of Madhubani, will be awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for his work 'Prabandh Sangrah' in the Maithili language and literature category in 2024. The Sahitya Akademi under the ministry of culture of the govt of India has announced national awards in 20 languages for the year 2024. At the same time, national awards for the remaining three languages will be announced later.
On the announcement of Mahendra Malangia getting the Sahitya Akademi National Award, literature lovers say that it would have been better if he had received this award for his drama writing, but still it is a matter of happiness.
Sahitya Academy awardees Bhim Nath Jha, and Uday Chandra Jha Vinod, both living pillars of Maithili poetry, have hailed the decision of the selection committee. Kuldhari Singh, former principal of J N College, Madhubani, has also expressed his happiness over the award going to a deserving littérateur.
Daman Kumar Jha, HoD (Maithili), PG department, LNMU(Darbhanga) said even though Malangia ji is primarily a dramatist, selection of his ‘Prabandh Sangrah' for the award is significant for his contributions.
