Truck-SUV collision kills 3 in Sitamarhi
Patna: Three people lost their lives when a speeding sand-laden truck collided head-on with an SUV transporting members of a wedding party on Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi highway on Sunday. The SUV driver and a woman died at the spot while a third person succumbed to injuries during treatment. Two others sustained injuries and were admitted to a private hospital.
According to police, the incident occurred in the Mahindwara police station area in Sitamarhi district. The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Raju Kumar, the SUV driver, Parvati Devi, 48 and four-year-old Priyata Kumari, the driver's niece.
Mahindwara SHO Ranvir Kumar Jha said two other people who were seriously injured in the accident are being treated at a private clinic in Muzaffarpur. "The SUV was heading towards Patna while the truck was travelling in the opposite direction towards Sitamarhi. After the accident, the truck driver fled, leaving the truck behind. The autopsy of the deceased is being conducted at SKMCH in Muzaffarpur."
Following the crash, a long queue of vehicles formed on the highway. The SHO added that police are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the truck driver. The impact of the collision was so severe that the roof of the SUV was torn off.
