Man in net for assaulting cop

Pune: The Bhosari police have arrested a 22-year-old man for assaulting a police constable with a baton at Nimbure Vasti in Dapodi on Monday night.

The suspect has been identified as Chetan Tanaji Salvi of Dapodi. Police constable Tushar Shinde, who is posted with the Khadki police, has lodged a complaint with the Bhosari police. Shinde is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

As per police, the incident occurred when Shinde, who stays at Nimbure Vasti, was sitting outside his residence with one of his friends after having dinner. “Around 9pm, Salvi arrived at the spot and started abusing Shinde and his friend without any reason,” police said.

Though Shinde’s friend asked him to behave himself, Salvi kept on hurling abuses at Shinde.

Fed up with his behaviour, Shinde and his friend pushed Salvi to the other end of the road before came back to the spot.

The suspect again arrived at the spot with a baton in his hand. “He hit the baton on Shinde’s head. The impact of the hit was such that Shinde sustained deep injury on his head. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital by his friend,” police said.

Thereafter, Shinde lodged a complaint against the suspect, following which he was arrested by the Bhosari police.

“Investigations have revealed that Shinde and Salvi are acquaintances,” police said, adding that the matter is being investigated further.
