Gas leak at Bhilai Steel Plant, three workers fall sick
RAIPUR: Three workers have fallen sick after inhaling poisonous gas after leakage at Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) a unit of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) in Durg district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday.
The three labourers were on contract and were working at blast furnace number six when the poisonous and flammable gas started leaking around 2 pm. There was capital repair work going on when the labourers inhaled the poisonous gas and fell unconscious.
They were immediately rushed to Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Hospital in Bhilai and admitted in the ICU ward, said an official of BSP to the reporters. The exact cause of gas leakage is being probed, the official said.
There were no other labourers sick or complaining of feeling unwell, though they were present a few meters away from the affected ones.
Condition of one worker was stated to be critical while the other two are stable.
The workers were identified as Mohammd Meraj, Haricharan and Mohanlal Gupta. No FIR was registered till the filing of this report.
