Raipur: After record-breaking rainfall in Chhattisgarh,
monsoon is heading towards its final farewell. This year's downpour created havoc across the state and broken all the records in over 11 years. Monsoon in Chhattisgarh is from June 16 to September 30.
The state received an aggregate of 1274.5 mm of rain this year. Overall the state had a 12% rain surplus.
As per the Met department of Chhattisgarh, 1142.1 mm of rain is considered normal for the state.
The Chhattisgarh have recorded more 1200 mm of rain only four times in last 11 years. In September, the state received 233.9 mm of rain, 13% more than the average.The state also witnessed good rain in July and August as well.
The monsoon calendar may have closed on 30 September, but it will continue to rain till the monsoon clouds depart. Monsoon departs from Chhattisgarh on 15 October, added the official.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon normally withdraws from Raipur by the fortnight of October. With reduced cloudiness, days in October are warmer and nights are cooler than in the previous month. Surface winds are northerly to northeasterly direction.
On rare occasions, Raipur comes under the influence of a cyclonic storm from the Bay of Bengal which crosses the
Andhra coast, said MET Scientist H.P Chandra.
