One assailant held, another shot at in Lohardaga
Gumla: One assailant was arrested while another was critically wounded when they attacked a contractor in order to prevent him from testifying in court in Lohardaga district on Tuesday morning.
The event occurred at Kuru bus stand at 9.30 am when the two bike-borne individuals — Anamul Ansari from Tati village in Lohardaga district and Subhash Jaiswal from Ranchi — arrived to attack contractor Santu Paswan.
Jaiswal's initial shot at Paswan hit his mobile phone. Subsequently, Ansari's shot accidentally hit Jaiswal instead of the intended target. Soon, local residents intervened, captured Ansari, and after roughing him up, handed him over to the police.
OC of Kuru police station Azim Ansari said, "We arrested Ansari while Jaiswal was admitted to CHC Kuru from where he was referred to Rims. His condition is critical."
In February last year, Paswan's elder brother Manglu was shot dead. His assailants are currently out on bail.
Quoting Paswan, the OC said, "Santu said he was threatened that if he appeared as a witness in his brother's murder case, he too would meet the same fate. They had come to kill him so that neither he nor his family members could be a witness in the court."
