Ranchi: The government has sent show-cause notices to 11 district-level education officials for the poor performance of students in their respective jurisdictions during the recently announced Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) matriculation and intermediate (science) examination results.
The 11 districts served the notice are West Singhbhum, Simdega, Lohardaga, Khunti, Latehar, Deoghar, Pakur, Gumla, Jamtara, Sahibganj and Dumka.
The notice also asked the education officers to review the results and suggest focus areas for improvement in the next examination.
Confirming that they have received the letter issued by secretary K
Ravi Kumar, the education officers said they will focus more on regular tests, holding meetings with school authorities and attendance of students from the ongoing academic session.
The letter said, “Based on the performance of the district in the published matriculation and intermediate examination results, it was determined that the district’s performance was unimpressive. The district education officer, district superintendent of education, sub-divisional education officer, area education officer and block education officer are responsible for the development, upgrade and promotion of education in the district concerned, but none of them have carried out their responsibilities in a meaningful and accountable manner.”
The district education officials have been instructed to explain the dismal performance of the results through the deputy commissioners.
Talking to TOI, D N Jha, the DSE of Sahebganj, said, “It is our responsibility to ensure that the district performs well in the results and we have been asked to develop a strategy for improving the performance. Therefore, schools will be advised to conduct weekly tests to determine if the students have mastered the teachings and concepts. The schools will also be instructed to hold regular meetings with the parents. In addition, we will conduct regular meetings with the schools to discuss the students’ performance and identify areas of weakness.”
