KRISHNAGIRI: Two people were killed and five others injured after a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) crashed into a median and overturned near Bargur here in the early hours of Saturday.
According to the Bargur police, the
accident took place when seven people from Kaveripakkam in Ranipet district - P Jana, 22; V Sekar, 44; Balakrishnan, 52; Kumaravel, 36; Dhivakaran, 24; Kanniappan, 70; and Lokesh, 22 – were heading to Hogenakkal in Dharmapuri district.
“When they neared Bargur on the Chennai-Krishnagiri-Bengaluru National Highway around 4am, Lokesh, who was at the wheel, lost control over the vehicle, which crashed into the median and overturned. Jana and Sekar succumbed to their injuries on the spot, while the remaining five escaped with injuries,” a police officer said.
When alerted, the Bargur police rushed all the injured to the Krishnagiri Govt Medical College and Hospital, where their condition is said to be stable.
Bodies of Jana and Sekar were also taken to the same hospital for postmortem. The accident affected the traffic on the NH for nearly an hour. The Bargur police restored the traffic movement on the stretch after removing the MPV involved in the accident from the road.
The Bargur police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the accident.
