Shillong: Dr Mehtab Chandee Agitok Sangma, the candidate of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) and wife of NPP president and chief minister
Conrad Sangma, won the byelection to the Gambegre assembly seat in the West Garo Hills district on Saturday by a margin of 4594 votes by defeating her nearest rival Sadhiarani Sangma of All India Trinamool Congress, reports Manosh Das.
The strength of the ruling NPP in the 60-member Meghalaya assembly has gone up to 32 with the victory of Mehtab Sangma.
“The message is loud and clear that the people have voted for change, development. I am very happy with the win. It was people who contested on my behalf in this byelection and I will leave no stone unturned for the development of Gambegre assembly constituency,” said Mehtab.
