<div class="section1"><div class="Normal"><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">KOCHI: After winning a tough contest, popular film director Sibi Malayil has been appointed the new chairman of Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA).</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">The panel headed by Sibi Malayil emerged victorious by a margin of 69 votes against the panel led by scriptwriter and director Lohitadas in the election held on Sunday.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">Director Kamal has been elected general secretary.</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">The other office bearers are: Ramachandra Babu and Lal (vice-chairmen); Harikumar, Jose Thomas and Sabu Pravada (secretaries), Kaloor Dennis (tresurer) and Shibu Chakravarthy, M D Sukumaran, T A Rasak, Rajasenan, Sathrughanan, Sunny Jospeh (executive committee members).</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">The Sibi Malayil panel, reportedly backed by the Kerala Chamber of Commerce, managed to garner 244 votes of the total 414 votes polled, while the Lohitadas panel was said to have been supported by Association of Malyalam Movie Artistes (AMMA).</span><br /><br /><span style="" font-family:="" arial="" font-size:="">The election was a virtual repeat of the recent chamber-AMMA war which took the Malayalam film industry to a virtual standstill, industry sources said.</span></div> </div>
