The 66th Republic Day in the district was observed with an array of colourful events.

TRICHY: The 66th Republic Day in the district was observed with an array of colourful events. Freedom fighters were honoured, government employees and police were given awards for their exemplary service.
At around 8am, the district collector Dr K S Palaniswamy unfurled the tri-colour flag at Armed Reserve Police grounds on Subramaniapuram in Trichy. He also released doves for peace and balloons in the presence of central region inspector general of police (IG) M Ramasubramani, Trichy range deputy inspector general of police (DIG) N K Senthamaraikannan, Trichy deputy commissioner of police (law and order ) Saroj Kumar Thakur, Trichy superintendent of police (SP) S Rajeswari and Trichy government railway police SP Annie Vijaya.

A total of 48 freedom fighters were honoured by giving shawls and memento. As far as police department was concerned, 57 policemen honoured with the chief minister’s medal. Twenty employees from various government departments were also felicitated with certificates for their service.
Around 770 students performed cultural programme and martial arts during the event.
