SLUG: 180 TEACHERS PROMOTED
Vadodara: The MS University (MSU) cleared the long-standing backlog of promotions under the career advancement scheme (CAS) within a record time of three months. Most of these promotions were pending for over four years. After Professor Dhanesh Patel took over as in-charge Vice-Chancellor of MSU, he prioritised the completion of CAS interviews and constituted selection committees across various faculties and disciplines.
All the promotions were duly recommended and approved by the executive council and the board of management of MSU. In total, 180 faculty members across 12 faculties were promoted under different stages of CAS. Of these, 33 faculty members were elevated from the post of assistant professor to associate professor, and 32 faculty members were promoted from the post of associate professor to the post of professor.
These career advancements will strengthen the university's academic and research framework. Following the University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations, each associate professor and professor is eligible to guide two additional PhD scholars. With these promotions, the university added 130 additional PhD supervision capacities.
"Our faculty is the backbone of the university, and their growth directly fuels the university's growth," said Patel. "With the increase in PhD guidance capacity, MSU will further emerge as a leading hub for quality research and innovation, contributing immensely to the nation's educational and developmental goals," he said.
In broader terms, the enhanced faculty qualifications will strengthen the university's NAAC scores across assessment criteria, while the increase in professors and research guides will contribute to elevating the university's position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), especially in research and professional practice metrics.
