VADODARA: The trend of abandoning newborn girls continues despite several efforts by the state government to save the girl child. On Sunday, two mothers left their newborn girls in SSG Hospital, where they were born some days ago. Sonal Parmar from the city and Sangeeta Mackwana from Bharuch were found missing from the ward by the staffers. Hospital authorities have informed respective police stations to trace both the mothers.

The incident came to light when the nurses at the maternity ward found the two women missing. Sonal delivered a baby girl six days ago, but she left the hospital on Sunday without informing anyone. Sangeeta, on the other hand, was admitted on Tuesday after being referred from Bharuch to SSG where she had delivered her daughter. She is believed to have left the hospital about two days ago.
The reason behind leaving the infants in the hospital is not known as yet.
Efforts are on to trace the two women. Hospital authorities will register a police complaint if the two mothers are not found. Sonal lives on a footpath near Baroda Dairy Road. Bharuch police too have been asked to trace Sangeeta.
While Sonal's baby is doing fine, Sangeeta's girl has been admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit.
