MLC polls: BJP, SP candidates file nomination on last day

Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party candidates filed their nomination papers on the concluding day of the nomination process for MLC (local bodies) election here on Monday.

Varanasi: Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party candidates filed their nomination papers on the concluding day of the nomination process for MLC (local bodies) election here on Monday.
According to deputy district election officer and returning officer for MLC (local bodies) election Ran Vijay Singh, BJP’s Sudama Kumar Patel and SP’s Umesh Kumar filed their papers in two sets each.

Besides, independent candidates- Brijesh Singh and Annapurna Singh, who had filed their papers in two seats on March 16, also filed one set of paper each. One more candidate Jai Ram of Lok Dal had filed his paper on March 15.
As per the revised scheduled issued by Election Commission of India for this election, the nomination filing process continued till Monday. Scrutiny of forms will be done on March 21. Candidates can withdraw paper by March 23 while polling will take place on April 9 followed by counting on April 12.
