Vijayawada:
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) board member and BJP leader G Bhanuprakash Reddy lodged a formal complaint with the Superintendent of Police, Tirupati, against former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy for what he termed a "false, fraudulent, and politically motivated" publication regarding the TTD Goshala.
Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha, addressing the press on Tuesday, said action would be taken against such false and fraudulent statements.
In his letter, Bhanuprakash Reddy expressed deep anguish over a news item published on April 12, 2025. It was prominently featured in a Telugu newspaper and widely circulated across social media and electronic media platforms, with information given by Karunakar Reddy. The report alleged the deaths of over 100 cows at the TTD Goshala due to negligence, accompanied by photographs and bold headlines branding the facility as a "Govadhashala" (slaughterhouse). The news also included a photo of a dead cow and a picture of the former chairman placed alongside.
Bhanuprakash Reddy asserted that the images used in the publication did not pertain to the TTD Goshala and claimed they were fabricated with the intent to malign the institution's image and mislead the public. He argued that the TTD Goshala plays a vital role in temple operations by supplying milk, curd, and ghee, and likening it to a slaughterhouse has deeply hurt the sentiments of devotees.
The BJP leader contended that the news item defames the TTD, undermines its reputation, and sows doubt among devotees globally. He further accused the former chairman of attempting to politicise the sacred institution.
Invoking Section 74 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bhanuprakash Reddy urged the police to initiate legal proceedings against Karunakar Reddy and others involved in the dissemination of the report. He demanded a thorough investigation and appropriate punitive action to safeguard the sanctity of the TTD and restore faith among devotees.
