NEW DELHI: The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Vijayawada arrested three dacoits and recovered �?4 lakh in cash stolen from a gold merchant on Thursday.
The theft occurred on January 25 aboard the Chennai Express, when Rajesh Jain, a gold trader from Rajahmundry, reported the disappearance of his cash bag.
GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police Ratna Raju said three teams were deployed to track down the suspects, leading to the arrest of the mastermind, Sai Krishna, and two accomplices on January 28.
The police recovered the entire stolen amount and revealed that the gang used a well-planned modus operandi to execute the crime.

The thieves escaped with gold, silver, and cash worth lakhs, with one victim claiming a loss of Rs 3 crore.
According to Circle Inspector Sainath, the gang first targeted a government employee’s house, stealing 3 tulas of gold, 1 kg of silver, and Rs 65,000 in cash.
They then struck two more houses, with one owner, Siva Reddy, claiming that Rs 3 crore worth of cash and ornaments were stolen.
Police have launched an investigation using CCTV footage and are working to identify and apprehend the culprits.
