SHIVAMOGGA: PM
Narendra Modi, in his final campaign rally ahead of
elections in Karnataka, accused Congress of politicising the rescue of Hakki-Pikki tribe members from Sudan, and said the opposition party “put lives of the 210 community members in peril”.
“Our Hakki-Pikki brothers and sisters were stuck in Sudan and in peril,” he said during an election rally in Nanjangud, 20k from Mysuru.
“The BJP government brought them home safe and sound. But our Congress party played dirty politics even in this case. When the Government of India was in the process of bringing them home, Congress leaders createdchaos and went to the extent of exposing them. ”
Modi said Congress presumed that by attacking BJP, it could exploit the issue for electoral gains. “But they forgot that they are up against Modi. Modi can take on the biggest of challenges for the welfare of citizens,” he said.
Earlier, Modi, while campaigning in Shivamogga, met with some of the 210 nomadic community members who were rescued from Sudan under ‘Operation Kaveri’.
“Our aim was to ensure the safety of all 210 people from your community, including you all, and 4,000 people,” Modi told them. “It was necessary to ensure that no one knew where you were as it could have put your lives in danger. We had to extract you all quietly. We wanted to ensure there was no loss of life. ”
He told the community that he “never sleeps even if one person is in trouble abroad”. He asked them about their experience when. civil war broke out in Sudan.
Later, in a 51-minute speech in Nanjangud, Modi attacked Congress, calling the Gandhis “Congress Royal Family” and said they “obtained help from the forces abroad to undermine Indian democracy”. “The family has even said Karnataka’s sovereignty should be protected. This means they do not accept that Karnataka is part of India and are openly calling to divide the nation,” he said.
He said those who took an oath to protect the Constitution are now talking of dividing the nation. He was referring to Rahul Gandhi’s talk in London. He urged voters to support BJP for development.
“This is my final election rally in Karnataka. I’ll later have darshan of Lord Srikanteshwara at Sri Kanteshwara temple in Nanjangud. Like Lord Srikanteshwara, who drank poison to protect the world, I also need strength to digest the insults lobed at me,” he said.
