SHIVAMOGGA: The Congress has approached the Election Commission on Saturday seeking it to cover the roof of the terminal building of the newly inaugurated Shivamogga airport as it resembles a lotus, symbol of the ruling BJP. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, KPCC secretary K Devendrappa said that the airport terminal resembles a lotus. "It was intentionally designed by BJP leaders, especially Shivamogga MP BY Raghavendra and former CM BS Yediyurappa. The roof of the terminal building should be covered till the elections are over," he said.

Devendrappa said that the Congress had objected to the lotus-shape design of the airport earlier, but authorities justified the design by saying that it resembles a flower and not lotus. "The airport has been built using tax payer's money and not by BJP party," he said.

"Lotus-shaped terminal will influence voters. The district administration and election commission should act quickly to cover the terminal," Devendrappa said.

The airport was inaugurated by prime minister Narendra Modi on February 27. Commercial flight operations are yet to commence at the airport which is mostly used by charter flights now.
