Madhuri Dixit, the 'Dhak Dhak' girl of the 90s, is one of the very few actors who are blessed with beauty, elegance, and talent in the right measure. While the evergreen beauty celebrates her 56
th birthday today here’s an interesting story that not many people have heard.
The Bollywood diva made her big screen acting debut in the 1984 film ‘Abodh’ opposite a Bengali actor.
Can you guess the name? Well, the actor is the late
Tapas Pal who passed away in 2020 after a cardiac arrest.
Although the film failed at the box office, Madhuri Dixit received appreciation for her natural acting. However, her breakthrough movie was the 1988 superhit ‘Tezaab’ and since then she went on to rule Bollywood with hits one after another such as ‘Ram Lakhan’, ‘Parinda’, ‘Ilaaka’, ‘Khalnayak’ and many more. She ultimately emerged as Bollywood reigning star, the 90s’ Dhak Dhak girl.
Coming back to her first film ‘Abodh’, the movie had Madhuri Dixit opposite Tapas Pal alongside Vinod Sharma, Ashok Saraf, Mohan Choti, and
Dinesh Hingoo in key roles. The film was directed by renowned filmmaker
Hiren Nag and produced by
Tarachand Barjatya.
Interestingly, Nag is often credited with successfully launching Madhuri Dixit as a star. He also directed several other films, including ‘Geet Gaata Chal’ in 1975 and ‘Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se’ in 1978, which earned critical acclaim.
While Madhuri became a star of Hindi cinema and her power-packed performances stood the test of time, Tapas Paul failed to recreate his magic in Bollywood despite delivering so many hit films in Bengali.
