Anshuman Pratyush whose latest film ‘Baazi’ starring Jeet and Mimi Chakraborty had a decent box office outing this Puja is all set for his next which deals with a more serious issue of rape survivors. Titled ‘

Nirbhaya

’, it’s not a film with a larger-than-life hero ruling the screen, instead, his film raises some serious questions like the struggles faced by rape victims.

‘Nirbhaya’ is Anshman’s dream project. It’s a courtroom drama intended to start a dialogue on the need to take another look at the laws required to support rape survivors who are minors.

Speaking about his film and why he decided to work on this grave issue, Anshuman says, “After doing commercial films, this is my foray into realistic cinema where I am following in the footsteps of my uncle — director Anubhav Sinha. A rape victim sometimes develops a negative outlook and she can feel damaged or unworthy of a better life. All these happen because of our society’s negligence and the way rape survivors are treated. Victims, especially minors, can find it almost impossible to deal with their pain. We demand strict laws against the culprits, and it’s our duty to do so. But do we demand enough for the victim?”

The hard-hitting film stars Priyanka Sarkar, Gaurav Chakrabarty,

Sabyasachi Chakrabarty

, Sreelekha Mitra, Shantilal Mukherjee and

Hiya Dey

in key roles.
