Mrinal Sen, a legendary Bengali filmmaker has passed away, reports confirm. The
Padma Bhushan and Dada Saheb Phalke awardee reportedly breathed his last at around 10:30 am at his home in Bhawanipore, Kolkata. He was 95.
Sen is considered to be one of the greatest ambassadors of Indian parallel cinema at an international level and gave the audience masterpieces like ‘Ek Din Achanak’, ‘Bhuvan Shome’, ‘Padatik’, 'Calcutta 71' and ‘Mrigayaa’, among others.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolence over the demise of the filmmaker and said, "The dexterity and sensitivity with which he made films is noteworthy. His rich work is admired across generations".

Mamata Banerjee condoled the demise of Mrinal Sen, saying it is “a great loss for Bengali film industry.”
“Saddened at the passing away of Mrinal Sen. A great loss to the film industry. My condolences to his family,” Banerjee tweeted.
