Music video on the ecstasy of Dhakis in Durga Puja creates a buzz

Can you imagine Durga Puja without the maddening beats of the Dhaks? Every Bong knows how the Dhakis with their large drums and thin sticks infuse the frenzied rhythm to create the festive fervour.
The lamp which eradicates darkness never lives amidst blaze. It is only around this time of the year that the Dhakis, Bengal’s traditional drummers, hope to win hearts with their art form.So how bad is a Dhaki going to suffer during this pandemic?

‘Uma Asche’ delineates the somber atmosphere of a Dhaki's little hut. The musical short has been directed by Arindam Goswami. A little boy inside the hut represents the Dhaki community that’s become the victim of the pandemic and its subsequent effects. The little boy thinks that he will not be able to play Dhak during the holy festival of Durga Puja and also he is concerned about his ailing paralyzed father. So, will they be able to enjoy the same atmosphere this year? The boy gets his answer from the Deity herself.

How does the Deity destine their lot? The answer can be found in ‘Uma Asche’. A group of talented young actors like Ishan Ghosh (little boy), Priyangshi Barick(little Maa Durga), Kanad Banik ( Paralyzed Father) and Simran Bhattacharya (Mother) has starred in the short. The video has been shot in Baruipur, Ghutiyari Sharif, Joka, Kheada village, Rajpur and Sonarpur.
