Satabdi Roy is making her way to the Parliament for the fourth time. The candidate of All India Trinamool Congress was contesting from the Birbhum constituency. The actress turned politician registered her victory with the margin of almost two lac votes in Lok Sabha Elections this year.

Satabdi, who is a well-known actress in the Bengali entertainment industry, debuted as an actress opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee in Tapan Sinha's much acclaimed Bengali film ‘Atanka’ in 1986. She rose to stardom after she acted opposite Tapas Paul in Tapan Saha's ‘Amar Bandhan’ in the same year. In 1987, she had five releases including Hiren Nag's ‘Pratibha’, Prabhat Roy's ‘Pratikar’, Anjan Mukhopadhyay's ‘Nyay Adhikar’, Biresh Chatterjee's ‘Ekanta Apan’ and Anjan Choudhry's ‘Guru Dakshina’, which became a massive success at the box office. Satabdi emerged as a star with her two back-to-back commercial successes ‘Apan Amar Apan’ by Tarun Majumdar and ‘Abishkar’ by Salil Dutta. She was also appreciated for her role in Tapan Saha's ‘Alingan’. She went on to deliver hits like Nandan Dasgupta's ‘Prem Pujari’, Deb Singha's ‘Adhikar’, Guru Bagchi's ‘Pennam Kolkata’, Prashanta Nanda's ‘Ghar Sansar’, ‘Lal Pan Bibi’, Srikanta Guhathakurta's ‘Shraddhanjali’, Chiranjeet Chakraborty's ‘Sansar Sangram’, Swapan Saha's ‘Sakhi Tumi Kar’ and Anjan Banerjee's ‘Chandragrahan’ to name a few. She made her Bollywood debut in National Award winning director Jyoti Sarup's ‘Naya Zaher’ in 1991.
In 1993, Satabdi shared the screen with Debashree Roy in Sreekanta Guha Thakurta's love-triangle film ‘Shraddhanjali’, starring Prosenjit. She hit the pinnacle of her professional rivalry with actress Rituparna Sengupta in the late 1990s since the two actresses were offered most of the female leads opposite Prosenjit Chatterjee after Debashree Roy vowed not to work with Prosenjit any longer. Satabdi still featured opposite Prosenjit in commercially successful Bengali films such as ‘Lathi’, ‘Sakhi Tumi Kar’, ‘Bakul Priya’, ‘Bidroho’, ‘Chandragrahan’, ‘Ranokhetro’, ‘Swamir Aadesh’, ‘Kalankini Badhu’, ‘Sajoni Aamar Sohag’, ‘Shapath Nilam’ and ‘Trishul’.
