National Award-winning filmmaker
Suman Ghosh, who went on to make five films with
Soumitra Chatterjee, has penned his memoir – Soumitra Chatterjee: A Film-maker Remembers – which is being released today to commemorate the iconic actor’s birthday. Published by Om Books International, the book provides a fascinating insight into the filmmaker’s interactions with Soumitra.
Remembering the late actor, Suman says, “He is the most vibrant person I’ve ever met.
His love for life knew no bounds. Whether through literature, poetry, films, general interactions or theatre, he perpetually tried to celebrate the essence of life. His mind was like a blank canvas, ready to be painted with vivid colours. I still can’t forget his smile, his laughter, his jokes, the knowledge he imparted, but most importantly, his magical presence.” Suman says writing this book was a “cathartic experience” for him. “It was painful to relive the memories, but it helped me emerge from the deep sorrow that had engulfed me after his demise,” he adds.
“Soumitra Chatterjee will be eternally an inspiration for all actors of all generations. I was a huge fan of his, and this is a great effort by Suman”
