Thunderbolts eyes HUGE $175 million opening weekend collection at global box office
Marvel Studios' latest superhero offering, Thunderbolts, is set to make a thunderous debut at the global box office.
The film, which has already garnered strong critical acclaim, is projected to earn over $175 million worldwide in its opening weekend, according to a report by Deadline.
In the US alone, Thunderbolts is expected to rake in between $70 million and $75 million, with international markets contributing an additional $90 million to $100 million. The film’s North American presales have already crossed $12 million, putting it on par with previous MCU debuts like Eternals ($71.2 million) and ahead of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ($75.3 million).
However, it trails behind this year's Captain America: Brave New World, which opened to $88.8 million in presales.
The film currently holds a near-90% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, making it one of the highest-rated titles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in recent years, a stark contrast to some of the franchise's recent releases, including Captain America: Brave New World (48%), Eternals (47%), and The Marvels (62%).
Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts features an ensemble cast including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Pierce, with David Harbour, with Hannah John-Kamen, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
Thunderbolts is expected to inject fresh momentum into the MCU and could emerge as one of the franchise's biggest post-Endgame successes. The film opens worldwide this weekend.
