As 2024 came to a close yesterday, and a new year has begun, it's time to look back at the Hindi film industry's top performers who made a significant impact on the box office and in the hearts of audiences. From horror comedies to action-packed thrillers, 2024 saw a diverse range of films that catered to different tastes and preferences. Based on the box office collections, we bring you the top three actors and actresses of 2024.


1. Shraddha Kapoor
Shraddha Kapoor takes the top spot among actresses, thanks to the massive success of her film , which collected a whopping ₹874 crores at the box office.
2. Deepika Padukone
Deepika Padukone was the perfect face for the pan India movies. With Hindi flicks such as Singham 3 and Fighter performing exceptionally well at the box office, her pan Indian movie Kalki also did well. Also, personally the actress became a mother last year, making 2024 glorious for her.
3. Tripti Dimrii
Tripti Dimrii rounds out the top three, with her films Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, Bad Newzz, and Vicky Vidya ka Woh Waala Video collecting ₹587 crores at the box office.

Ajay Devgn rounds out the top three, with his films and collecting ₹680 crores at the box office. His status as a Bollywood action hero, combined with his ability to take on more nuanced roles with movies like , has cemented his position as one of the industry's top actors.

Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi calls this year a “serious leveler”. He explains, “The notion of stardom has literally been redefined. The perfect example is Ajay Devgn, who turned up at the box office the maximum times this year. He opened at 40 plus crores with Singam 3, at about 18 crores with Shaitan, at about 3 and a half - 4 crores with Maidaan and then a little over 1 crore on day one with Auron me Kahan Dam Tha. It's not like his stardom has been challenged or diminished but this year has literally shown that irrespective of how big a star you are, ultimately you can only be the propeller. The spaceship is still going to be the content of the film. It's also shown that the biggest superstar, irrespective of the cast of a film is the storytelling and nothing supersedes that.”
Filmmaker Ramesh Taurani agrees, “Ultimately this year has proven again that more than stars it is the movie and the writing that wins.”

In 2024 the pan-India phenomenon continues to change the dynamics with Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 shattering all records. “What Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2 has done is unprecedented. Perhaps I don't have the words to express the kind of response his movies generate when they are released. This has been a learning lesson for all of us and we are to be blamed. We've been making those kinds of films which are targeted at a handful of metrics. The south has been retaining that masala factor,” says senior trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
Rathi adds, “This multiplex cinema is only going to take you up to a certain limited number which cannot allow the mounting of films with big stars, considering what their fees are. Therefore, we need to go a lot more universal with our storytelling style. The universal audience is the movement shaker at the box office. We can do all of these small niche, urban multiplexing films all the time. But if we really want to challenge the box office and if we really want to make an impact, then we have to really say ‘Audience devo Bhava’.”
