Hema Malini shared the screen with Amitabh Bachchan in the 2003 movie 'Baghban'. The duo captured hearts with their portrayal as an on-screen husband and wife. Now, filmmaker Ravi Chopra’s wife, Renu Chopra, has shared an unknown fact about Hema Malini from the film and her demand on set to perfect her character’s appearance alongside BigB.
In a recent conversation with Pinkvilla, Renu Chopra recounted an instance that showcased the actress’s attention to emotional details. There was a scene where Hema’s character stands in front of a mirror to get ready, while Bachchan’s character comes from behind, admiring her beauty. “Hema asked me to stitch her blouse a bit tighter so that, when Amit ji comes, he can fasten the blouse tightly. She said, ‘That touch would give me the look I want’—one that conveyed, ‘He’s touched me. After so many years of being married, it meant so much.’ She is a very romantic person in real life,” Renu revealed.

Renu also shared that Hema landed the role of Amitabh’s wife in the film after Tabu refused to play it. Tabu, who liked the script and story, was hesitant to portray the mother of four at just 36. She later shared the screen with Bachchan in R. Balki’s 'Cheeni Kum' in 2007.
Renu further highlighted the hurdles faced in bringing 'Baghban' to theatres, revealing that securing distributors was a major challenge, as many considered the film's theme outdated. She recalled that the movie had a sluggish start, struggling at the box office during its first four days. However, it eventually connected with audiences, leading to a remarkable turnaround. The film’s charm was further enhanced by notable cameo appearances from Salman Khan and Mahima Chaudhry.
