When Anupam Kher spoke about falling in love with his best friend Kirron Kher: 'She was in a tough marriage, I had just been ditched by a girl'

Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher have been married for nearly 40 years. Recently, Anupam talked about their strong bond, which started in college in Chandigarh. They reconnected in Mumbai, where Kirron was married, and Anupam was struggling for work. Over time, their friendship grew into love as they faced life’s challenges.
From College Friends to Lifelong Companions
Speaking to Shubhankar Mishra in 2024, Anupam recalled his long friendship with Kirron Kher, mentioning that while he was unmarried, she was already married. They had been close friends for 12 years, with Kirron being his senior in college and excelling in academics, acting, and badminton. After moving to Mumbai, Kirron joined him there after her marriage to Gautam Berry. During his struggling days, he and Satish Kaushik often visited Kirron and Gautam’s home for dinner. She would give them Rs 50 for a taxi, but they chose to save the money and travel by bus instead.

A Love That Grew from Friendship
Anupam further shared that their bond grew from friendship to love during a difficult phase in their lives. While Kirron was facing challenges in her marriage, he was dealing with heartbreak after being left by someone he was with. During this time, their connection deepened, leading them to fall in love and get married.

What Anupam Loves Most About Kirron
The veteran star also shared that what he admires most about Kirron is her honesty, confidence, beauty, and caring nature. He described her as someone with a strong character. Their deep friendship eventually turned into love, which later led to marriage.
Anupam and Kirron got married a year after the release of his debut film Saaransh. In the same interview, he also shared that his stepson, actor Sikander Kher, still lives with them.
