When Mallika Sherawat shared her family was sad at her birth: ‘They wanted a boy…’

Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat previously made a shocking revelation about her family's deep-rooted gender bias. She shared that her birth was not celebrated but mourned, as her relatives had expected and desired a male child.
"When I was born, mere parivaar mein maatam chhaa gaya tha (there was mourning in my family). They wanted a boy," Sherawat recalled in an old interview with Hauterrfly. "My mother must have gone into depression because of it. Imagine giving birth, and instead of joy, you see sadness on everyone's faces."
The actress spoke about the stark disparity in how she and her brother were treated. While her parents openly discussed investing in her brother’s future, even planning to send him abroad for his studies, she was never given the same consideration. "But for me, it was always ‘Iski shaadi karni hai’ (We have to get her married). No one ever asked me what I wanted to do," she said.
