The Rajesh Ramanathan-composed album for Akul Balaji’s Devravne Budu Guru directed by debutant director Pratham is turning out a star jukebox. After Puneeth Rajkumar, Sudeep, Upendra, Prem and Meghana Sunder Raj, the latest to lend her voice to the soundtrack is National Award-winning actress Priya Mani. The actress recently recorded this number, which marks her debut as a singer.
Given that Akul and Priya share a good camaraderie after being part of a dance reality show, one would guess it wasn’t too hard for Akul to convince Priya to sing for this album. But the interesting bit is that this was a surprise that even Akul didn’t know of. “It is a tough song, which required Priya to sing it in three different ways.
While she claims it is her debut singing effort, her singing makes it seem like she is a veteran at this. We kept it a secret from Akul, only telling him that someone who he knows well has lent her voice to the song. We kept him guessing for days and he finally got to know who it was only after Priya spoke to him over the phone after the recording,” says Pratham.
