One bright summer day, life changed for the then model Poonam Bajwa. That was when she got her first film offer from the south. Five years since that day, Poonam has now become a familiar name among lead actors across all the southern film industries.
Recently in the city for director Shafi's Venicile Vyapari, Poonam is happy to say that this venture marks her second movie wherein she stars alongside popular actor Kavya Madhavan.

"We get along very well. She is also extremely down-to-earth," reflects Poonam. The movie, set in the 80's, will see her play a rather bold and brave girl, who is in love with a character played by Malayalam film star Mammootty.
With two films here already, Poonam says that her Mollywood outing so far has been a rather pleasant surprise. "I had not planned to be a part of the Malayalam film industry at all," she admits. "I just took a chance. My only connection with the south until then, were a couple of visits to shoot for ad campaigns. I identified southern cinema with actors like Chiranjeevi, Rajinikant and Mammootty, as those were the names we heard often. I did not even know the difference between Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films," she reveals.
While Poonam has been a part of all three film industries, she is yet to master the language. "I am getting better with Tamil as of now," she concludes.
