Actress Nandini Rai opens up on her struggle with depression

At a time when conversations about

mental health

are gaining more and more importance, many actors are opening up about their struggles with mental health. Latest to open up was Nandini Rai who attributed the cause of her

depression

to failures in her professional life.

Tracing her journey in the film industry, she said, “I had a promising start to my career, with three big films initially in 2012, but some of the projects were shelved and a few did not work out.” She had hoped that her 2015 release

would get her the success that she was looking for but that was not the case. This made things worse for her. “I got suicidal thoughts; I wanted to jump from my terrace or cut my wrists. I spent several sleepless nights thinking about my life, my career and other personal issues. I was all over the place and literally clueless,” she said, adding that it was only after suffering for two years that she decided to seek professional help.

She also shared how she got over her depression. “I got pets at home and started spending more time with them. I started investing in the share market and started to learn more about it. I started speaking to my parents a lot more and took up kick boxing as a hobby. It was also then that I got into Bigg Boss (2018).Depression haunted me but I did not give up and fought till the end,” said Nandini Rai who is doing much better now. She i s now working on projects n the Tamil and Malayalam industry.
