Pirro began her legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in Westchester County in 1975. In 1990, she became the first female judge on the Westchester County Court bench, and in 1993, she was elected as the county's first female District Attorney.
During her tenure, she gained recognition for her work on domestic violence cases and crimes against the elderly. Pirro ran for the U.S. Senate in 2006 and later for New York Attorney General, losing to Democrat Andrew Cuomo.

Jeanine Ferris Pirro was born on June 2, 1951, in Elmira, New York, to Lebanese-American parents. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in three years and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from the University at Buffalo. She then obtained her Juris Doctor degree from Albany Law School in 1975, where she served as an editor of the law review.
