MUMBAI: Actor Navin Nischol and his brother Pravin were on Tuesday acquitted of charges of cruelty and abetting the suicide of the former's wife by a sessions court here. Additional Sessions Judge B D Kamkhedkar acquitted them, saying no case was made out against the brothers. Navin's wife Geetanjali had committed suicide in 2006 and left behind a note blaming the brothers for her death.
She had stated that Navin was undergoing financial crisis and that she was depressed because of his drinking.
She also blamed Pravin for harassing her by siding with Navin. The brothers were arrested on April 28, 2006 after Geetanjali's death. The Nischols were charged with the offences under sections 498 A (cruelty and harassment to woman) and 306 (abetment to suicide).
