NEW DELHI: In the wake of the Maharashtra government rejecting a probe report on
Adarsh scam, BJP on Friday said while
Congress and its vice-president
Rahul Gandhi have tried to take credit for passage of the anti-corruption Lokpal bill, they are protecting the guilty in the housing scandal.
Terming Rahul's reaction to the Lokpal bill "comical", senior party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said while the Congress leader claimed credit for passage of the legislation, he had kept quiet when
Anna Hazare was arrested by his government on the issue.
"Rahul Gandhi does not utter a word on the stinking corruption of his government whether it is the Adarsh scam, 2G scam or Coalgate or even the Commonwealth Games scandal but tries to jump outside the arena of establishment that I am the only one supporting this bill," he said.
Prasad insisted that this was "hypocrisy and double standards" of Congress and the people of the country were aware of it. He maintained that the people would not give any credit to Congress despite such posturing.
Leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said the Adarsh scam involved loot of public property by private persons. "Congress chief minister of Maharashtra
Ashok Chavan had to resign on the issue. Today, the Congress believes that it has resolved the issue by denying the sanction to prosecute Ashok Chavan and by the Cabinet rejecting the report of the inquiry committee probing the Adarsh scandal," he said.
