Besides curfew and other restrictions, the government had imposed suspension of phone and cellular data services in Kashmir to prevent mobilization of violent rioters and check separatist propaganda. But, Geelani continues to tweet divisive messages and videos with ease.
Going by his Twitter (@sageelani) and Facebook (syedaligeelani) pages, it's evident that he has full Inter net access. Under the name Quaid-e-Inquilab on Facebook, octogenarian Geelani has been constantly posting information, Islamist rhetoric, graphic pictures of violence and propaganda material about “martyrs". He uploaded photos and videos even on Independence Day, when all communication services were shut down completely. He posted a picture of CM Mehbooba Mufti hoisting the Indian flag, which may have accidentally fallen from the pole, and tweeted, “The flag of india fell in SHAME!!! Couldn't cover the shame of killing innocent people of #Kashmir by india (sic).“
Chief of pan-Islamist group Jamaat-e-Islami, Geelani also runs the organization's Twitter and Facebook pages.
