Fire breaks out at Maha Kumbh mela: What we know so far

NEW DELHI: A fire broke out in the Maha Kumbh Mela area in Prayagraj on Sunday, leading to the burning of several tents. The fire broke out at 4:00 pm due to a cylinder blast, officials said.

"Two cylinders exploded in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh Mela, causing a massive fire in the camps. Fire fighters are trying to douse the blaze," Akhara Police Station in-charge Bhaskar Mishra was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.



Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath visited the site of the fire and spoke to officials and fire fighting teams on the spot.

The fire erupted near the Shastri bridge in zone 19 of the mela. "The fire broke out in sector 19 in the tent of Gita press. The fire spread to the nearby 10 tents. The police and administration team reached the spot," Ravindra Kumar, DM, Prayagraj said while talking to news agency ANI.

Fire brigade teams were immediately dispatched to the spot and the fire had been doused.
