Being developed in four phases, the airport in Greater Noida’s Jewar, which will have five runways, had its first touchdown on December 9. It will be open to domestic and international flight operations from April 2025. Here’s the lowdown on NCR’s second airport
An Airbus 320 operated by IndiGo was the first flight to touch down and take off from the runway of Noida International Airport in Jewar (Greater Noida) on Monday (December 9). No, this wasn’t a regular passenger flight. Wait till April 2025 for that.
Monday’s was a trial to assess the new airport’s flight readiness, which it cleared successfully. The flight — with Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Airport Authority of India (AAI) officials on board — landed at 1.25pm to a water cannon salute, accompanied by thunderous applause from airport staff and hundreds of workers who toiled on the project over the past couple of years.
