NEW DELHI: The indefatigable Sushma Swaraj continues to battle trolls and in epic fashion.
The trolls just won't stop taking aim at their once darling Union minister. The external affairs minister has been at the receiving end of trolls ' filthy abuses for a week now, ever since a passport officer in Lucknow was transferred over the issue of alleged mistreatment of a Hindu-Muslim couple.
One of the latest trolls said to her, on where else but Twitter, "Do me a favour and block me (on Twitter) please, I'm waiting."

Swaraj shot back.

"Why wait? Here you go, you're blocked."

Trolls called Swaraj, among other things, the possessor of an "Islamic kidney" and an "almost dead woman as she runs on only one kidney".
The trolling against Swaraj got so abusive that even the opposition Congress party and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee stepped in last week to support her and condemn those abusing her.
"Strongly condemn the language used on the social media against @sushmaswaraj Ji . She is a senior politician. We must respect each other and must never indulge in any form of verbal abuse," Mamata said in a tweet.

The Congress party too was not pleased - at all.
"No matter the situation or reason, nothing calls for threats of violence, disrespect & abuse. @SushmaSwaraj ji, we applaud your decision to call out the heinous trolls of your own party," tweeted the Congress on its official Twitter handle.

The "decision to call out the heinous trolls" that the Congress was referring to, is Swaraj's decision to "like" some of these tweets, thus calling attention to them. That is, she savvily made sure that anyone who missed the abuses heaped on her was made aware that she was at the receiving end of trolls, and over what. All this without referring directly to the incident.
That's not all. Two days ago, Swaraj sought public opinion on the misogynist and personal attacks she was being subjected to on social media by organizing a Twitter poll.

As many as 43 per cent said they approved of the abusive tweets directed at her.
Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday disapproved of the online abuse and harassment of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj by trolls over her ministry's decision to grant passport to an interfaith couple.
"I consider this absolutely wrong," Singh said.
