Kani busy playing do-gooder at Tihar

NEW DELHI: DMK leader Kanimozhi, an under-trial in the 2G telecom scam, remains a die-hard politician even at Tihar Jail.
Lodged in jail number 6, along with 475 female inmates, she has become quite popular within a short span of time. She is keeping herself busy by playing a do-gooder to the hilt. She lends a patient hearing to her fellow prisoners’ problems, and also escalate them to jail authorities.
For instance, when there was a water crisis in jail number 6 recently, the inmates approached her with great expectations. Sure enough, she didn’t disappoint them either.
Sources said, she took up the matter with the jail superintendent, and the problem was solved in no time.
No wonder, inmates have started looking up to her. They stand in a queue every morning and bid Kanimozhi good bye when she leaves for court from the jail every morning.
At the court, too, she is a picture of poise. She smiles and interacts with all those who come in her way.
In the evening, when she returns from court, inmates welcome her at the gate. Time for another round of chit chat, suggestions and consolations.
Sources said she has been seen talking to jail superintendent and other senior officials about facilities in the prison.
On her first night at Tihar, she had complained about the toilet allotted to her, which was changed later.
She also keeps herself busy by studying and watching TV in her cell.
Though Kanimozhi has been allowed to have home cooked food, she often tastes the jail meal. Mosquito repellent has also been made available to her to keep the sting menace at bay.
