‘Delete it, please’: Tharoor slams BJP over ad amid India-Pakistan conflict

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday criticised the BJP for sharing a political advertisement amid the ongoing military tensions between India and Pakistan, calling it an inappropriate attempt to divide the nation.

“At a time when the nation stands united as Indians, this petty attempt to divide us politically is deplorable,” Tharoor posted on X, tagging the BJP's official handle.

Referring to past events, he said, “Our government has learned the futility of past approaches the hard way -- after inviting Pakistan to participate in the investigation of the Pathankot blasts in 2016. It is only then that it took to the path of military action, carefully calibrated and maturely conducted.”

Calling the BJP’s move “neither appropriate nor mature,” Tharoor urged the party to remove the ad, concluding his message with “Delete it, please, @BJP4India. Jai Hind!”

Jogaram Patel expressed gratitude to all party leaders for wholeheartedly supporting the state's efforts, mentioning that they have assured full cooperation with the government at every level.

He further remarked that Pakistan's actions are inhumane and unacceptable. Unlike them, Indian Army has never targeted civilians, and responses have always been aimed at terrorist threats and military provocations. The minister clarified that any attempt to harm civilians or troops has been met with a strong and appropriate response. Going forward, Jogaram Patel said that all parties, including those in opposition, will continue to work together to counter Pakistan's failed intentions.

Operation Sindoor: Pakistan using Islam as facade to promote terrorism, says Owaisi slamming two-nation theory amid India-Pakistan conflict

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Friday strongly condemned Pakistan's rhetoric amid the ongoing military conflict, stating that the neighbouring country continues to misuse Islam to justify its actions.

“Pakistan conveniently forgets that there are more than 230 million Muslims living in India and our forefathers rejected the two-country theory. We despise, we rejected the two-nation theory proposed by Jinnah, and we accepted India as our country and will continue to stay here,” Owaisi said.

He accused Pakistan of trying to divide India along religious lines and questioned its actions beyond India. “When Pakistan talks about the two-nation theory, why are they bombing Afghanistan border posts? Why are they bombing Iranian border posts? Afghanis and Iranians are Muslims,” he added.

“It is the deep state of Pakistan, which only uses Islam as a facade to cover up all illegal activities and their promotion of terrorism. This is what they have been doing for the last 75 years against India,” Owaisi said.

“Pakistan’s military has been continuously attacking our western borders,” Qureshi said. “They have employed a mix of drones, high-speed missiles, loitering munitions, and fighter aircraft to strike India’s military assets. US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said on Thursday (local time) that Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s main focus is to ensure the situation does not worsen amid rising India-Pakistan tensions.

Speaking at a press briefing, Bruce said the United States has been actively engaging both nations in peace talks and stressed the importance of communication.

"The real focus of the Secretary of State is that this should not escalate. This has been a key framework. This has been an issue for decades and with what we saw over the last few weeks, after the terrorist attack. It was not surprising but very, very disappointing. It should not escalate and communication was fundamentally key that there should be talks, there should not be silence, and that America was at the center of this in speaking with a variety of leaders of both countries over the last two days," she said.

Bruce added that the United States is collaborating with India across several intergovernmental levels.

"There's some discussion that Pakistan wants an independent investigation as to what has happened regarding the terrorist attack. We want the perpetrators to be held accountable and are supportive of any efforts to that end. We continue to urge India and Pakistan to work towards a responsible solution in this," she said.

Following India's successful execution of the counter-terror operation codenamed 'Operation Sindoor' in Pakistan and PoJK on Wednesday, a major terror hub in Bahawalpur city of Punjab was destroyed.

Bahawalpur has long housed the Markaz Subhan Allah, active since 2015, which is the main training and indoctrination centre of Jaish-e-Mohammed and serves as its operational headquarters. The facility is associated with various terrorist plots by JeM, including the Pulwama attack of February 14, 2019.

It includes the residences of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, de-facto chief Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, Maulana Ammar, and other family members of Masood Azhar. Masood Azhar has frequently used this base to deliver anti-India speeches and calls to jihad. JeM regularly conducts arms training, physical conditioning, and religious indoctrination at Markaz Subhan Allah.

During a press briefing in Delhi on Wednesday, foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh explained the objectives of the operation. A total of nine terror locations in Pakistan, including five in PoJK, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, were struck with precise planning to prevent civilian casualties.

Colonel Qureshi elaborated on the targeted sites, stating that the four terrorist camps eliminated in Pakistan were Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya.

She also confirmed the destruction of Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, located 100 kilometres inside Pakistan, stating, "It was the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed, targeted by Indian Armed Forces."

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh outlined the strategic objectives of the operation, stating, "'Operation Sindoor' was a retaliation to the horrific Pahalgam terror attack of April 22 to serve justice to the innocent victims and their families. Nine terror camps were targeted and destroyed."

She said that Pakistan has maintained a complex terror infrastructure for the past thirty years, consisting of 21 recruitment, indoctrination, and launch-pad centres throughout Pakistan and PoJK.

"The targets for Operation Sindoor were based on credible intelligence inputs and locations that were so selected to avoid damage to civilian infrastructure and loss of civilian lives," Singh added, highlighting the operation's precision.
