Operation Sindoor Live Updates: J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan & Gujarat on high alert after Pakistan's failed drone attacks

Operation Sindoor Live Updates: Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, explosions were heard near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir early Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) thwarted a major infiltration attempt along the International Boundary in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The attempt took place around 11 pm on May 8.

In a post on X, BSF Jammu wrote, "At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K."

Earlier, multiple sources informed ANI that a Pakistani Air Force jet was shot down by Indian Air Defence systems in the Pathankot sector of Punjab. However, an official confirmation from the government is still awaited, and more details are expected soon.

According to defence sources, the Indian Army also shot down two Pakistani drones in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir. The drones were intercepted amid a heavy exchange of artillery fire between Indian and Pakistani forces.

The Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff reported that Pakistan attempted to target military stations in Jammu, Pathankot, and Udhampur — all close to the International Boundary. The Indian Armed Forces responded strongly, and no loss of life was reported.

In a post on X, the Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff stated: "Military Stations of Jammu, Pathankot and Udhampur in proximity to the International Boundary, in Jammu and Kashmir targeted by Pakistan using missiles and drones. No losses. Threat neutralised by Indian Armed Forces as per SoP with kinetic and non-kinetic means."

These developments follow India's launch of "Operation Sindoor" on May 7, during which the Indian Armed Forces executed missile strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

Indian officials said the strikes targeted infrastructure linked to terror groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. The operation was carried out in retaliation for the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 28 civilians.

Meanwhile, external affairs minister (EAM) S Jaishankar spoke to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and conveyed to him that India will firmly counter any attempts by Pakistan to escalate the situation.

The EAM also had a phone conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas.

Following the phone conversation with Rubio, EAM Jaishankar underlined India's targeted and measured response to cross-border terrorism.

Hours after an escalation attempt by Pakistan on Thursday night, United States Vice President JD Vance stated that the India-Pakistan conflict is "fundamentally" 'none of America's business' and unrelated to its capacity to control the situation.

Speaking to Fox News, Vance said that while the United States can urge both countries to de-escalate, it cannot interfere directly in the conflict.

"Fundamentally, India has its gripes with Pakistan. Pakistan has responded to India, what we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate a little bit. But we are not going to get involved in the middle they were fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America's ability to control it," he told Fox News.

Vance acknowledged US concerns about the potential for a conflict between nuclear-armed nations and said the administration is working to prevent such an outcome.

"We are concerned about any time nuclear powers colliding and having a major conflict, and what we said and what Secretary Rubio has said and the President has said- is that we want this thing to de-escalate as quickly as possible. We can't control these countries, though," he said in an interview with Fox News.

Operation Sindoor Live: Former Pentagon official says 'Pakistan started conflict, India a victim'

Speaking on the India-Pakistan conflict, Michael Rubin, former Pentagon official and a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, said that Pakistan started the conflict with its support to terrorism, and India was the victim of it.

While talking to news agency ANI, he said that India's military has shown itself to be much capable.

He said, "Pakistan started the conflict with its support for terrorism. Indians were the victims of terrorism. While I was initially critical that Prime Minister Modi had taken so long to respond, but it's clear that the Indian military was carefully planning and the Indian military has shown itself to be far more capable," he said.

He added that Pakistan is now trying to save its face. He added that when one sees themselves in a hole, they must stop digging.

"Pakistan is thrashing about, looking for a way to save face. But Asim Munir should understand that the first rule of hole digging is when you're in a hole, stop digging... Looking forward, there can only be one metric by which we look at the diplomatic solution to this issue. Pakistan has to be designated by the United States to be a state sponsor of terror," he added.

Operation Sindoor Live: JD Vance says US to stay out of war that's 'none of our business'

The United States has made it clear that it does not intend to intervene in a conflict it views as "fundamentally none of our business".

Speaking in a television interview on Thursday, Vice President JD Vance said that while Washington cannot control the actions of India and Pakistan, it can play a role in encouraging both nuclear-armed nations to de-escalate.

"Look, we're concerned about any time nuclear powers collide and have a major conflict," Vance said when asked about the Trump administration’s concerns over the possibility of nuclear war between the two countries.

Vance cited President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, both of whom have stressed that the United States wants the situation to "de-escalate" as soon as possible.

"We can't control these countries though. Fundamentally, India has its gripes with Pakistan. Pakistan has responded to India. What we can do is try to encourage these folks to de-escalate a little bit. But we're not going to get involved in the middle of war that's fundamentally none of our business and has nothing to do with America's ability to control it," the vice president said.

He said that the United States cannot force either side to disarm and will continue to rely on diplomacy to prevent the situation from escalating.

"America can't tell the Indians to lay down their arms. We can't tell the Pakistanis to lay down their arms. And so we're going to continue to pursue this thing through diplomatic channels. Our hope and our expectation is that this is not going to spiral into a broader regional war or, God forbid, a nuclear conflict, but sure, we're worried about these things.

"But I think the job of diplomacy, but also the job of cooler heads in India and Pakistan is to make sure this doesn't become a nuclear war. If it happened of course it would be disastrous. Right now we don't think that's going to happen," he said. (PTI)

Operation Sindoor Live: Explosions heard near LoC in Poonch & Rajouri amid escalating India-Pakistan tensions

Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, explosions were heard early Friday morning near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Further information is awaited.

In a related development, the Border Security Force (BSF) successfully thwarted a major infiltration attempt along the International Boundary in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday night.

The infiltration bid occurred around 11 pm on May 8.

In a post on X, BSF Jammu wrote, "At around 2300 hours on 8 May 2025, BSF foiled a major infiltration bid at the International Boundary in Samba district, J&K."

US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said on Thursday (local time) that Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s main focus is to ensure the situation does not worsen amid rising India-Pakistan tensions.

Speaking at a press briefing, Bruce said the United States has been actively engaging both nations in peace talks and stressed the importance of communication.

"The real focus of the Secretary of State is that this should not escalate. This has been a key framework. This has been an issue for decades and with what we saw over the last few weeks, after the terrorist attack. It was not surprising but very, very disappointing. It should not escalate and communication was fundamentally key that there should be talks, there should not be silence, and that America was at the center of this in speaking with a variety of leaders of both countries over the last two days," she said.

Bruce added that the United States is collaborating with India across several intergovernmental levels.

"There's some discussion that Pakistan wants an independent investigation as to what has happened regarding the terrorist attack. We want the perpetrators to be held accountable and are supportive of any efforts to that end. We continue to urge India and Pakistan to work towards a responsible solution in this," she said.

Following India's successful execution of the counter-terror operation codenamed 'Operation Sindoor' in Pakistan and PoJK on Wednesday, a major terror hub in Bahawalpur city of Punjab was destroyed.

Bahawalpur has long housed the Markaz Subhan Allah, active since 2015, which is the main training and indoctrination centre of Jaish-e-Mohammed and serves as its operational headquarters. The facility is associated with various terrorist plots by JeM, including the Pulwama attack of February 14, 2019.

It includes the residences of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar, de-facto chief Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, Maulana Ammar, and other family members of Masood Azhar. Masood Azhar has frequently used this base to deliver anti-India speeches and calls to jihad. JeM regularly conducts arms training, physical conditioning, and religious indoctrination at Markaz Subhan Allah.

During a press briefing in Delhi on Wednesday, foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh explained the objectives of the operation. A total of nine terror locations in Pakistan, including five in PoJK, linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, were struck with precise planning to prevent civilian casualties.

Colonel Qureshi elaborated on the targeted sites, stating that the four terrorist camps eliminated in Pakistan were Bahawalpur, Muridke, Sarjal, and Mehmoona Joya.

She also confirmed the destruction of Markaz Subhan Allah in Bahawalpur, located 100 kilometres inside Pakistan, stating, "It was the headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed, targeted by Indian Armed Forces."

Wing Commander Vyomika Singh outlined the strategic objectives of the operation, stating, "'Operation Sindoor' was a retaliation to the horrific Pahalgam terror attack of April 22 to serve justice to the innocent victims and their families. Nine terror camps were targeted and destroyed."

She said that Pakistan has maintained a complex terror infrastructure for the past thirty years, consisting of 21 recruitment, indoctrination, and launch-pad centres throughout Pakistan and PoJK.

"The targets for Operation Sindoor were based on credible intelligence inputs and locations that were so selected to avoid damage to civilian infrastructure and loss of civilian lives," Singh added, highlighting the operation's precision.
