Priyanka Tiberwal

, whom the BJP has fielded against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee for the Bhabanipur by-election, is a lawyer for the post-poll violence cases in the state.


While the bypoll would be held on September 30, the counting of votes would be undertaken on October 3.

According to sources in the BJP, Priyanka Tiberwal is a graduate in English Honours from the University of Delhi. Subsequently, she studied law at the

University of Calcutta

before starting her practice as an advocate in the Calcutta high court and the Supreme Court.

She also holds an MBA from Assumption University, Thailand.

She is a an advocate handling wide variety of cases ranging from defending victims of atrocities of the state government, such as in the

Raniganj

riot case or the Purulia murder case. She has also held various roles in the BJP and has been an office-bearer in the West Bengal unit of the party.

According to the sources, Tiberwal played a crucial role in the recent post-poll violence incidents in West Bengal and took up the alleged murder of Abhijeet Sarkar in the Calcutta high court to seek justice for him.

The sources said, "Due to her stoic endurance against all odds, Priyanka Tibrewal has been successful in getting initiated an investigation by the

Central Bureau of India

(CBI) and also in the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) for investigating the post-poll violence in West Bengal."

They added, "Priyanka Tibrewal has been regularly appearing in numerous national television news debates on behalf of the BJP and her effortless speaking skills in either English, Hindi or Bangla enables her to express her opinions far and wide."
