The Krishna Kamal flower, more commonly known as Passion flower, is a beauty to say the least. With elaborate blooms, colourful petals, and a mix of purple, white, blue, and more shades, it is a flower that everyone wishes to grow at home.

For Hindus, the Passion flower is the Krishna Kamal, and every element of the flower denotes characters from Mahabharat, and even the Gods themselves. It is said that the top 3 buds of the flower are Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Shiva.

Just below the 3 buds are 5 petals, soft and almost paper-like in nature. These 5 petals are said to represent the 5 Pandavas who were close to Gods, and Shri Krishna himself, thus finding space on the Krishna kamal.

And surrounding the central part of the flower are more tiny petals, which people say are always 100 to count, and these are though to represent the 100 Kauravas, the cousins of the Pandavas in the Mahabharata.

The chakra-like design on the flower, just above the 100 petals, is said to be a symbol of the Sudarshan chakra. People believe that Lord Krishna placed himself in different forms in the flower.

Krishna Kamal is a perennial flower that grows well in warm and humid climate. It blooms from spring to summer, and the bst flowers are produced from March to mid-June.

Passion flowers grow best in well-drained, fertile soil and need moderate watering, which should be reduced during the flowering stage as it could lead to root rot. Most people prefer spraying water over the nodes and near roots during this time.

Another highlight of the Krishna kamal is that it is a climbing vine, and while it does need some support to grow tall, when it does and covers the walls, it looks simply aesthetic and a delight to the eyes.

Krishna kamal is thus grown for both spiritual and religious reasons. People grow it in temple gardens, home garden, and even in the balcony, and these are also offered to the Gods during daily pujas.
